REACHING OUT TO THE WORLD WITH THE GOSPEL OF HIS SECOND COMING

The gospel of today, especially in this millennium is the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. This implies that our messages today must be to proclaim, preach and prepare the world for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our messages must use the present events in this present world to prepare the minds of the people for the day. We must bring their attention to what the bible has foretold and other events to look forward to.

The Gospel is good news. In this situation, it is to be a good news of the Lord’s return.

The second Coming foretold:

 ·  In the OT  (Dan 7:13-14, Ps 72:2-4, Isa 2:2-4, 11:4-9)

·  By Jesus Christ.  (Matt 24:30, Mk 13:26, Lk 21:27, Matt 16:27, 25:31, Jn 14:3,

    28)

·  By the angels at Jesus Christ’s ascension (Acts 1:11)

·  By the Apostles (Acts 3:20-21, Phil 3:20, 1 Cor 1:7, 11:26, 1 Thess 1:10, 

    2Thess 1:7-10)

NT terms for the Second Coming.

·   “Parousia” – literally meaning “presence” or “coming”  (Matt 24:3, 2 Pet 3:4, 1 Jn

       2:28)

·    “Apocalysis” Meaning literally “Unveiling. The second coming will make visible that

       which is already true of Jesus Christ but presently hidden from sight: Lk 17:30, 1 Cor

       1:7, 2 Thess 1:7, 1 Pet 1:7)

·    “Epiphaneia” Meaning literally “appearing” or “Manifestation” the term suggests

       coming out into a view from hidden background: 2 Thess 2:8, 1 Tim 6:14, 2 Tim 4:1.

Events that will precede the second coming.

·    The universal preaching of the Gospel. ( Matt 24:14, Mk 13:10, Matt 28:19-20,

      Act 1:7-8)

·    The persecution of believers. (Matt 24:9, Mk 13:9, 13:19, Matt 24:22, 12-13, Lk

      21:16-17, 2 Tim 3:1, Rev 7:14)

·    Apostasy -- nominal religion and ungodliness.  (1 Tim 4:1, Matt 24:10,  2 Tim 3:1-5,

      2 Pet 3:3-4)

·    Revelation of the Antichrist. (1 Jn 2:18, Dan 7:20-22, 2 Thess 2:3-4, 1 Jn 4:3)

·    Appearance of false Christ and false prophets.  (Matt 24:24, Mk 13:6, Lk 21:8, Matt

      24:11, 2 Jn7)

·    Wars and rumors of wars.  Matt 24:6-7, Lk 21:9-10)

·  Famine and earthquakes. (Mk 13:8, Lk 21:11 Matt 24:7-8)

·  Cosmic changes. (Matt 24:29, Lk 21:25-26)

The purpose His Coming needs to be preached.

     To:

1        Raise the dead.  (1Cor 15:22-23, 1 Thess 4:16)

2        Judge all people.   (Ps 96:13, Matt 16:27, 25:31-32, Rev 20:11-15)

3        Judge the wicked. (2Thess 1:7-10, Rom 2:5, 2 Pet 3:7, Jude 15)

4        Destroy all evil and opposition to God’s kingdom. (2Thess 2:8, 1 Cor 15:24-26, Rev 20:10,14)

5        Reward the believes. (Matt 24:46-47, 1 Pet 5:4, 1 Jn 3:1)

6        Gather the church together. (Jn 14:3, 1 Thess 4:17, 2 Thess 2:1)

7        Bring final Salvation . (Lk 21:28, Heb 8:28)
